Adel Barbara and Jorge Haddad SERGEY Anisimov MD, PhD, Moscow, Russian Federation and Jorge Haddad MD, Charleston, US, were honoured on Saturday as the first recipients of the Joseph Colin Keratoconus Award. The awards, which include a prize of €1000 each, were presented at the conclusion of “New concepts and research on keratoconus”, an ESCRS Congress instructional course organised by members of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Keratoconus and Ectatic Corneal Diseases (IJKECD). The Joseph Colin Keratoconus Award was created as a memorial tribute to Joseph Colin MD, the French ophthalmologist who passed away in 2013. Two awards will be given annually to the lead authors of the two “best” papers published in the IJKECD during the past year. The recipients of the awards are determined by a seven-person committee based on scientific criteria. “We chose the articles that were innovative because we are giving an award in the name of an innovative person. Prof Colin was the first to implant Intacs for keratoconus in 1997, and he was a leader in the ophthalmic communities in France and the world,” said Adel Barbara, IJKECD editor-in-chief, and medical director, iVision Refractive Surgery Centre, Haifa, Israel. The money for the two awards was contributed by Albert Daxer MD and Yaron Rabinowitz, MD.
